Student Representative Council (SRC)

Junior School

The Student Representative Council is comprised of elected class members. The members are voted for by their peers. Members need to demonstrate the school values and leadership skills. SRC meetings are conducted on a fortnightly basis. The meetings are supervised by students under the guidance of a staff member. Junior School events, concerns and celebrations are some of the issues discussed and acted upon.

Middle School

In the Middle School, each class elects two representatives who undertake leadership roles and responsibilities for the student body. They also have the opportunity to:

• Be a role model for others
• Attend meetings with other reps and their supervising teacher
• Run assemblies, including speaking to the group
• Participate in fund raising and other events as a leader
• Attend leadership days
• Voice issues and concerns for their class at periodical meetings with the principal and other decision making bodies

SRC Representatives have many valuable opportunities to develop their leadership skills during their time on the Council, including an invitation to attend the annual Global Leadership Convention and National Young Leader's Day.

Senior School

The Senior School leadership team is represented by 11 students from Years 10, 11 and 12. This group is also supported by Kerry Howell, the Youth Worker at Yankalilla Area School. All positions become vacant at the start of each year.

Last year the main areas that were focused on were organizing the senior school formal (now to be held every 2 years); fundraising for the Cora Barclay Centre for the Deaf, collecting clothes for an orphanage in Bali and participating in the 40hr Famine. We also looked at beautifying areas of the school which are not treated well eg the senior toilet block (this will now be taken up as a project for this year). We regularly conduct senior school assemblies and attend relevant conferences such as the Young Leaders Conference held in Adelaide last year. Some members also participate in the Leo Club which supports events in the community.

The SRC inspires students to develop their leadership and teamwork abilities as well as being of service to the school and the community. These attributes are included in a certificate received at the end of the year which is then added to a resume portfolio and looked on favorably by employers.

As well as personal qualities gained, experience in meeting procedures, access to special events and meeting new people, it's also a lot of fun making a difference.
