Welcome to Yankalilla Area School. Our school's core values are: care, respect, honesty, responsibility and excellence.

Active 8

The Active8 Premiers Youth Challenge is a youth development program that provides Y.A.S. year 10 students with a range of exciting adventure-based activities. The Active8 program is also based on developing partnerships with local organisations that focus on strengthening the student's involvement in the community. The program promotes increased self-confidence, self-reliance, and a spirit of volunteering and community activity. Students also have the opportunity to undertake the Duke of Edinburgh's Award within the Active8 program.

The two major components to the program are:

1.)Community Service

The program has been set up so that the students visit the CFS shed and participate in a number of 'Basic Fire Fighter' activities as well as complete the requirement of a Senior First Aid certificate. A dedicated group of volunteers led by John Edge and John Talbot Smith mentor the students through the program . It is great to see past students who have become active members of the CFS are now acting as peer mentors for the program .

The community service component of Active 8 has expanded into other Outdoor Education programs at the school. For example year 8/9 students visit and learn about the Sea Rescue Squadron under the guidance of. Paul Brown and his team of volunteers

The aim is to further develop these links and add other community service organisation into various school programs in the future

2.)Outdoor Adventure

The students are required to participate in a number of outdoor adventures. Some examples include bushwalking expeditions in a number of local venues, kayaking expeditions on the Murray and the Glenelg River, Snorkelling in Ewen Ponds in the South East , Adventure Ropes Courses in the Adelaide Hills and Adventure Caving at Naracoorte
