Highlights and Achievements

EKG FUNDRAISING SUMMER HARVEST CELEBRATION

What a great night it was! Perfect weather, great company, excellent service and fine food. Lots of fun was had by all and we raised over $ 5 000 towards our new fence which will surround the garden. The silent auction proved to be a great winner and we are very grateful to businesses for their generous support. The fence will: secure the area from "wandering" stock, act as a shelter from the prevailing winds and give the garden itself its own defined area. The Middle and Senior School students did an outstanding job in food preparation and service and our guests commented on their friendliness and professional approach.

SCHOOL SPORTS DAY

1ST STURT
2ND FLINDERS-LIGHT
3RD BARKER

After celebrating their successful win here is what the captain had to report on the day:

STURT

  • We enjoyed being captains because we helped people get involved and because we got to be leaders.
  • we had to help get the little children organised.

  • go out the front for the war cry.

  • help our team members with the afternoon team games.

Sturt did great to finally finish Light's winning streak, it was great to see such a good turn out and the teams were colourful. Well done Sturt!

FLINDERS-LIGHT Well done to all in Flinders Light! A terrific effort by all but we will just have to try harder next year. Well-done to all who won events and participated on the day. We still won the war cry though. It was great to see everybody dressed up in their team colours. Remember Sturt you may have won the battle but we won three years straight! Being house captains was fun as our team looked up to us for advice and you get to help organise the little children's events.

BARKER The competition was really good, encouraging students to put in their best efforts. Well done to all who watched and participated. It was a very enjoyable day. Maybe next year it will be Barker's turn.

SANTOS ATHLETICS

On Monday 30th March our athletics team headed to SANTOS Stadium in Adelaide to compete in an athletics day. Our team consisted of fifty students in years 8 to 12 with two of our Year 7 girls to fill some of our younger team places. Twenty schools from all over the state were involved in two divisions. Our athletes competed in events that were either against the schools purely in our division or on many occasions against competitors from both divisions. There were 109 events on the day that our team were able to be involved in. Our athletes were allowed to compete in four individual events and two relay teams due to our school population. Others schools with larger populations were allowed to enter three events plus one relay. We did not have a participant in ten events due to illness or lack of a willing competitor. The athletes had a fantastic day and there were too many highlights to name individuals. Of the ninety nine events we were participating in Yankalilla gained 27 first places, 17 second places, 18 third places and many more outstanding efforts. This tremendous effort enabled both our boys’ and our girls’ teams to win their division and come away as SANTOS division champions. Well done all team members on a fantastic effort. We look forward to the same event in 2010.

Team Coordinator.
