Society and Environment

Society and Environment R-12

"Learning through society and environment involves learners in developing knowledge, skills and values that enables them to participate, in a range of ways, as ethical, active and informed citizens in a democratic society within a global community."

Society and environment includes 4 areas of investigation;

  • Time, continuity and change- in our physical and cultural landscape What stays the same? What has changed? Why did it change? Who made it happen?
  • Place, space and environment- an understanding of the significance of places and resources and how we interact with our environment.
  • Societies and cultures- explore, identify, recognise and learn to respect and value the shared and unique characteristics of individuals and communities.
  • Social systems- how our social systems are developed and how they interact with each other both nationally and internationally.

All students from Reception to Year 10 participate in Studies of Society and the Environment working through topics which incorporate one or more of the mentioned areas of investigation (sometimes known as Strands).
