Students and Our Community

Community Forums

There have been a number of forums held where students have been asked to share their views on the future direction of the Fleurieu.

In May 2019, in conjunction with the District Council of Yankalilla, we held a School Vision Forum titled “What is the Future Direction of Yankalilla Area School”. There were two sessions, one in the afternoon for students, and an evening session where we invited school parents, staff and community members. The forum was facilitated by Community Engagement Specialist, Becky Hirst, posing questions such as “What Are Our School Goals?” and “What do we want YAS to be known for?” The results from these two sessions have been invaluable to school staff and Governing Council and have already resulted in the development of our new School Vision Statement.

On 5 November 2019, Becky Hirst once again facilitated a forum of approximately 30 Reception to Year 11 students in the District Council of Yankalilla’s ‘Nature’s Best - Let’s Plan the Rest’ community consultation. Students were asked to “Imagine it’s 2030 … What do you see, hear or feel in the district?” The results of these conversations about their hopes, dreams and biggest worries are available in the report HERE. We are very grateful to the District Council of Yankalilla for giving our students the opportunity to share their voice in the development of the Strategic Management Plan for 2020-2030.
